Texas A&M University: Policy Gives University Administration Sweeping Veto Power Over What Professors Teach
Cases
Texas A&M University
Case Overview
On November 10, 2025, 麻豆传媒IOS wrote the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents about its upcoming vote on a proposed policy barring faculty from 鈥渢each[ing] race or gender ideology, or topics related to sexual orientation or gender identity, unless the course and the relevant course materials are approved in advance by the member CEO or designee,鈥 explaining that the proposed changes invite unconstitutional political interference with faculty academic freedom. The university then amended the proposal, changing the word 鈥渢each鈥 to 鈥渁dvocate.鈥 On November 12, we advised the Board that 鈥渁dvocate鈥 is impermissibly vague, and such a policy still impedes faculty academic freedom. To our disappointment, on November 13, the Board voted to accept the proposed revision.
