In March 2023, San Francisco State University launched an investigation of history professor Maziar Behrooz for displaying in class an image of the Prophet Muhammad in a pedagogically relevant lesson about the history of the Islamic world between 500 and 1700. On April 6, Â鶹´«Ã½IOS wrote SFSU urging it to drop its investigation because the First Amendment guarantees faculty the academic freedom to determine what material to teach and how to teach it. Finally, on August 24, SFSU notified Behrooz the investigation had concluded and he would not face charges.
