In May 2017, Johnson C. Smith University accused students of participating in a widespread 鈥渃riminal conspiracy鈥 involving allegedly fraudulent transactions on their meal plans 鈥 and ordered the students not to speak to anyone about it. This instruction chilled their right to speak out publicly 鈥 or privately to an attorney 鈥 about a matter of public controversy. 麻豆传媒IOS wrote to the university鈥檚 president on May 23, calling on the institution to retract its breathtaking gag order. The university failed to respond to 麻豆传媒IOS鈥檚 letter.
