Will Creeley to Speak at Cornell
Â鶹´«Ã½IOS's Director of Legal and Public Advocacy Will Creeley will speak tonight at Cornell University. His lecture is titled "Liberty in Peril: Speech Codes on our Nation's College Campuses." The speech will take place at 6:00 p.m. (ET) in G22 Goldwin Smith Hall.
In addition to having a red light rating for its problematic free speech policies, Cornell was the recent target of Â鶹´«Ã½IOS's efforts when an administrator confiscated signs the Cornell Coalition for Life had erected in the engineering quad. Through Â鶹´«Ã½IOS's efforts, the signs were returned to the students. Also, the Cornell Student Assembly tried to punish The Cornell Review for publishing satirical articles in its freshman orientation issue last fall. Former Â鶹´«Ã½IOS intern and Cornell student John Cetta nicely summarized the free speech problems at Cornell here.
