'techdirt' on Saginaw Valley State U's Censorship of Anti-Censorship Posters
In titled "University Utilizing Faulty Irony Detector Censors Flyer Protesting Its Censorship Policy" published today on popular technology blog , Tim Cushing comments on Â鶹´«Ã½IOS's at Saginaw Valley State University. Cushing points out the continuing oddity of higher education's insistence on treating adult students as "overly sensitive children who need to be kept in a protective, non-offensive bubble during their stay on campus." The whole article is worth a read (warning, some "swear words" are used), as it makes many of the same points Â鶹´«Ã½IOS President Greg Lukianoff makes in his book .
Most provocatively, Cushing asserts that censorship on college campuses creates "a sanitized ‘hive mind' atmosphere in which every student is treated as part of a collective ‘student body,' an entity whose tolerance for ‘offensive' speech is constantly calibrated to the most ‘sensitive' members of this whole." for more of techdirt's take on the case.
